Opening Our Doors to Colorado's Future Workforce

Written By:

-Topshelf Printers

At TopShelf Printers, we believe every business has the opportunity to make a positive impact in its community.

Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming students from Colorado's School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP) for a behind-the-scenes tour of our production facility. It was an opportunity to introduce students to the world of custom printing while sharing the many career paths that exist within our industry.

For many students, experiences like these provide their first look inside a real manufacturing environment and help connect classroom learning with future career opportunities.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Custom Printing

Throughout the tour, students explored our production departments and learned how custom apparel, promotional products, signs, and branded merchandise are produced from start to finish.

Along the way, they experienced:

  • A guided tour of our production facility
  • Live printing demonstrations
  • Career discussions with members of our team
  • A closer look at the equipment, technology, and craftsmanship behind every project

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions about daily responsibilities, different career paths, and the skills that help drive success in the printing and manufacturing industry.

Why Workplace Tours Matter

Career exploration goes far beyond reading about different professions in a classroom.

By stepping inside a local business, students gain valuable insight into how a company operates, how teams work together, and the wide variety of careers available in industries they may have never considered.

Programs like the School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP) help bridge the gap between education and employment by connecting students with real businesses, meaningful experiences, and opportunities to build confidence as they prepare for the future.

These experiences not only benefit students—they also strengthen local communities by creating connections between education and industry.

Building Colorado's Future Workforce

Strong communities are built when schools, businesses, and workforce development organizations work together.

We're grateful to the School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP), the Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the Colorado Department of Education, and the local school districts for creating opportunities that introduce students to new career possibilities.

A special thank you also goes to the students who visited us. Their curiosity, thoughtful questions, and enthusiasm made the experience enjoyable for everyone on our team.

Get Involved - Help Inspire the Next Generation

Hosting the SWAP students reminded us that opening our doors and sharing what we do can have a lasting impact. We look forward to welcoming future SWAP groups and continuing to support programs that invest in Colorado's next generation of skilled professionals.

If you're a Colorado business looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community, consider partnering with your local School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP). Opening your doors for a workplace tour, career exploration day, or job shadow experience can inspire students while helping strengthen Colorado's future workforce—one opportunity at a time.
